Mayor Joe Hogsett signed an executive order Aug. 21 suspending all fees for building permits submitted for flood-damaged properties following last weekend’s historic flooding.
The order applies to improvement location permits and floodplain development fees for those in flood-impacted areas. The Department of Business and Neighborhood Services is responsible for determining those areas.
Last weekend’s flooding destroyed or damaged hundreds of homes in the Ravenswood, Rocky Ripple and Broad Ripple neighborhoods. The White River rose to levels not seen since 1913.
The suspension remains in effect for the next 30 days.
Permits must be submitted through the city’s Accela Citizens Access Portal.
Hogsett also signed an additional executive order Aug. 21 to extend the local disaster emergency declaration.
The order allows the city to impose travel bans, implement curfews and take other actions to aid emergency response and recovery efforts. The mayor signed the first declaration Aug. 14.
