Although election season is over, the Indiana University-Indianapolis Office of Community Engagement is continuing its efforts to educate students on civics engagement throughout the year (Photo Credit: IU-Indianapolis Office of Community Engagement).
“We must continue to stay engaged even after election season because policies continue to be passed and it’s our duty as American citizens to hold politicians accountable after electing them into office,” said Anna Morgan, Voter Education and Engagement Intern with the Office of Community Engagement.
The Office of Community Engagement is actively looking for partner organizations to host nonpartisan civics engagement events, whether they involve voter registration, educating students about the legislative process, visiting the Indiana Statehouse, attending an Indianapolis City-County Council session, or even writing letters to elected officials.
In 2020, 79.3% of registered student voters at IU Indianapolis cast a ballot, which was significantly better than Indiana as a whole, where only 65% of registered voters cast a ballot. 85.9% of students registered to vote.

- Tuesday, May 21 – Monday, October 7: Indiana voter registration for the general election
- Tuesday, October 8 – Monday, November 4: Early voting in Indiana
- Thursday, October 24: Last day to request an absentee ballot in Indiana
- Tuesday, November 5: Election day
Their website also includes how to register to vote, find your elected officials and a calendar of political engagement events.
The Office of Community Engagement also offers several webinars on advocacy at the Indiana Statehouse.
