The City of Beech Grove announced June 2 that Kelly Herron had been appointed to the Beech Grove Board of Public Works and Safety. Herron takes the spot vacated by Sandy Seward, who served for 13 years on the board.
The City of Beech Grove shared a biography detailing her connection to Beech Grove, as well as her education and professional credentials.
“Kelly Herron brings over 20 years of experience in education and nonprofit leadership to her role on the board of public works,” the biography said. “Born and raised in beech grove, Kelly has been raising her family here for the past 16 years and is deeply invested in the community’s future.”

Herron was also recently quoted in the Indianapolis Star criticizing Republican Rick Skirvan over an incident that some say derailed his mayoral campaign against now-Mayor James Coffman, where Skirvan was accused of racial profiling. Skirvan was a member of the Beech Grove City School Board at the time.
“A board member abused his power and reported the boys to the school for disciplinary action with no proof that they did anything wrong,” she is quoted as saying at the time, as a parent of a student in Beech Grove City Schools. “This was unacceptable and unnecessary…. Our boys have now been introduced to what it feels like to be profiled and falsely accused.”
Herron is also the executive director of VITAL Foundation Inc., leading “efforts to support teachers and expand educational equity,” according to a biography shared by the City of Beech Grove.
Kelly also holds an MBA in education leadership from the University of Indianapolis and a B.S. in Education from Xavier University.
“She is committed to public service and strengthening communities through thoughtful, mission-driven leadership,” the biography also said.
