IPS is offering support to families who typically receive federal food assistance.
Benefits offered through the federal Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program were not awarded on time this month as the government shutdown continues.
That means EBT cards supported by SNAP weren’t refilled as would be expected on Nov. 1. Two federal judges recently ordered the Trump administration to use emergency funding to pay out SNAP benefits, but it remains unclear how soon those benefits reach families.
In the meantime, IPS is offering support through several school-based pantries. Families with students registered in these schools can receive assistance.

IPS pantries include:
- Brookside School 54: 7:30-10 a.m. every third Friday, 3150 E. 10th St. (Brookside also offers community-wide assistance from 10-11 a.m. every second Saturday of the month.)
- Daniel Webster School 46: 9 a.m. to noon, twice a month, 1450 S. Reisner St., call 317-226-4246 for more information.
- Eleanor Skillen School 34: 2:30-3:30 p.m. every third Thursday, 1410 Wade St.
- H.L. Harshman Middle School: Nov. 5, Nov. 19, Dec. 3 and Dec. 17, 1501 E. 10th St. All of these dates are open to the community — however, there may be some restrictions on who is eligible to receive aid. - Ralph Waldo Emerson School 58: 321 N. Linwood Ave., call 317-226-4258 for more information.

Families of students attending Carl Wilde School 79 can text @79freefood to 81010 for assistance.
