Beech Grove awarded $487,810.89 in road funding grants

Beech Grove was recently awarded $487,810.89 in funding from the Community Crossings Matching Grant Program to improve roads and bridges. Indianapolis was also awarded $1.5 million.

The CCMG program was established by the Indiana General Assembly in 2016, and has awarded more than $2 billion in state matching funds for local construction projects.

“This program is instrumental in allowing the City of Beech Grove to double our paving budget each year. Since its inception, the City of Beech Grove has been awarded $3.6 million in CCMG funds from the State of Indiana,” said Beech Grove Mayor James Coffman. “We all work hard to be effective and responsible with our resources, and this is a great example of how municipalities and the State of Indiana can partner to serve taxpayers.”

The funding will go towards road repairs on Alton Street from 13th Avenue to Emerson Avenue, Fourth Avenue from Albany Street to Bethel Avenue, Sixth Avenue from Albany Street to Bethel Avenue, and Detroit Street from 13th Avenue to Beechwood Drive.

“The CCMG program helps improve local infrastructure and plays a key role in keeping Indiana’s economy strong, and I applaud our local leaders who have taken advantage of this excellent opportunity,” said State Sen. Aaron Freeman (R-Indianapolis).

Through the program, the Indiana Department of Transportation matches up to $1.5 million annually when localities invest in road and bridge repairs. Counties with populations fewer than 50,000 and cities and towns with populations fewer than 10,000 receive a 75%/25% match, while counties with populations greater than 50,000 and cities and towns with populations greater than 10,0000 receive a 50%/50% match.
