Over this past year I’ve been fortunate enough to interview four billionaires who are on the Forbes 2024 List of Billionaires while hosting The Jacob Buehrer Show (which can be found on YouTube, Spotify, Apple and Rumble). Since you might not have time to watch my interviews with these different billionaires, I thought I’d share four major things that stood out as I spoke with them.
1. Passion
All of the billionaires I’ve had on the show discuss how they love what they do. No matter if it’s Barry Zekelman, who’s more of a blue collar businessman, or Jared Isaacman, who’s involved in e-commerce, or even Larry Connor, who is involved in investment real estate, they all tell me they love what they get to wake up to do.
2. Work Ethic
Looking back, many of the billionaires I have been able to interview discuss how they wish they got more sleep, as many have admitted that they were always sleep deprived and working long days. Many people work a 40 hour work week, but when I interviewed Chris Larsen the founder of Ripple (a software company), he admitted to sleeping very little in his early days.
3. Experience Matters
Many people hear about the stories of Mark Zuckerberg or Bill Gates dropping out of Harvard and think they’re geniuses. Although that is true in a way, they also had tons of knowledge in the industry they went into. When I interviewed Barry Zekelman on my show, he discussed dropping out of college to take over his dad’s small business after he died. In the process, he became an expert in that field long before his name ended up on the Forbes list. No matter what you want to do in life and what education you need, you must have a vast amount of experience. That is something Barry discussed in my interview with him.

4. Don’t Chase The Money
Although these people i’ve interviewed are the best in the field they do business in, at one point all five of them started small and not wealthy at all. Whenever I asked them about gaining wealth through a business venture, all of them said something to the effect of, if you don’t enjoy waking up doing what you do, good luck making any money doing it. This is an important point for anyone to consider when choosing a future career path.
